Real-Life Cloud Migration Stories

You may not have migrated to the cloud before, but these businesses have.

Many businesses are turning their focus and resources towards cloud migration. From startups to multinational corporations, the allure of the cloud lies in its ability to seamlessly integrate into existing infrastructures, connect your team anywhere and anytime, and foster a dynamic ecosystem capable of meeting the demands of the modern digital age.

There are many pathways to the cloud, and you may still be considering the best route forward. It can be daunting to plan a migration to the cloud, unsure of whether a complete paradigm shift of your organisational processes is worthwhile. However, migrating to the cloud can be done in phases – as fast or as steady as you require. Many businesses have already made the migration to the cloud in smaller, more manageable steps. Evaluating their stories, experiences, and the solutions they used is a prudent step in your own migration story.

Arcadia’s cloud migration story

Trading as EIZO Oceania, Arcadia is a leading global manufacturer of high-end monitors and visual technology solutions. Their products are designed for specialised use in medical imaging, creative arts, air traffic control, and other high-dependency applications.

Arcadia was motivated to move to the cloud when they opened a second office location. The on-premise limitations, VPN connections, and expensive servers that were necessities for their existing MYOB Exo Business system would soon become a burden across multiple locations.

They successfully transitioned into the cloud by implementing MYOB Advanced Business. This achieved a single, efficient platform that updated in real-time. They use it to manage Finances and Accounts, Inventory Management and Customer Relationship Management (CRM). Arcadia’s migration from MYOB Exo to MYOB Advanced improved overall productivity and provided end-to-end management of its products. Additionally, integrations with their core business management system enhanced visibility and simplified reporting for the finance and sales teams.

MSP Photography’s cloud migration story

MSP Photography Pty Ltd (MSP) is Australia’s largest school photography service provider based in Wagga Wagga, NSW. Each year, MSP’s professional network of 25 local franchisee businesses and over 500 full and part-time staff provide quality services and school photography products to more than 3,000 schools and 1.4 million students across Australia.

MYOB Exo Employer Services was the best solution available on the market to meet MSP’s payroll needs when it was implemented. When MyStaffInfo and MYOB Exo Employer Services started to move towards end-of-life, they decided to into review and achieve their payroll goals in a new system.

MSP migrated to the cloud with MYOB Advanced Payroll and MYOB Advanced Workforce Management following the advice of their trusted advisor Kilimanjaro Consulting. This pathway to the cloud gave MSP the fully integrated, automated payroll and employee management system it always wanted:

  • Head office can centrally pay every employee (including franchisees) with separate ABA files generated automatically for each location,
  • A complex “hours-bank” system to cater for the seasonal demand of their work and maintain consistent pay for their full-time staff,
  • Automated onboarding to streamline the hiring process for the ever-changing casual team,
  • Clock-in clock-out functionality to capture time and automatically update both the pay run and the hours bank.

The introduction of cloud-based payroll is just one step on MSP’s cloud migration journey. When they are ready, the Kilimanjaro Consulting team is standing by to help them transition their core ERP to MYOB Advanced Business, so they can manage the entire organisation from one integration cloud solution.

MYOB’s cloud migration story

MYOB is a staple in the Australian and New Zealand business market, providing accounting software to new and growing businesses for almost 40 years. Over one million ANZ organisations trust MYOB’s software to manage their business, from small to large and complex organisations.

When MYOB decided to drink its own champagne and move to the cloud with MYOB Advanced, it engaged Kilimanjaro Consulting. No other partner had the skills and low-risk approach to get their implementation right the first time. We leveraged our years of experience and structured methodology to produce the best possible result. We are proud to say we are the expert for the experts. If MYOB trusted us to get their implementation right the first time, you can too.

MYOB had data scattered across over 30 different systems and tools. They faced significant pain that relied on team members manually re-keying information across their technology ecosystem. The lack of integration created disconnected data flows, and reporting was time-consuming and error-prone as there was no centralised data source.

MYOB Advanced brought all of MYOB’s data into a single source of truth while also facilitating their cloud migration. They saw an 80% reduction in processing time for targeted workflows, thousands of reporting hours saved per year, a $100K reduction in licensing fees, and a $600K reduction in headcount demand to manage manual data entry.

Kilimanjaro Consulting was right beside MYOB through their cloud migration journey; MYOB Advanced is a scalable, future-proof option to continue their growth.

Capability Resources’ cloud migration story

Capability Resources provide safety and compliance products and services, to protect the workers of different industries across Australia. They focus on the three critical areas of safety: competent people, safe practices, and equipment that is fit for purpose.

When the on-premise servers they used to run MYOB Exo reached the end of their serviceable lives, Capability Resources seized the opportunity to move their existing system into the cloud. They implemented ExoHosted, a hosting service that shifts MYOB Exo onto offsite servers. This gives the Capability Resources team access to their MYOB Exo system in the cloud through any internet browser.

Capability Resources now pays a monthly subscription for their servers, instead of the large capital outlay and other ongoing maintenance costs. ExoHosted gives them the flexibility to work from home and still easily access their MYOB Exo database without VPNs or remote desktops that slow down processing speeds. They reap all the benefits of the cloud while still operating their familiar and fit-for-purpose MYOB Exo system.

The Capability Resources team still have the option to migrate to a cloud-based business management platform like MYOB Advanced Business if and when they need it. They can be confident that Kilimanjaro Consulting will support them over their full lifecycle with either MYOB Exo or MYOB Advanced.
